Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards flies back into Crystal Peaks as the award-winning Sheffield shopping mall celebrates its 30th anniversary. Eddie the Eagle is the British skier who in 1988 became the first competitor since 1928 to represent Great Britain in ski jumping, becoming a much-loved national institution following his appearance at the Calgary Winter Olympics of 1988. It was at the height of his fame that he was invited to cut the ribbon at Crystal Peaks, Sheffield’s new of town shopping centre.
Our receptionist/ customer care desk operative Diane at Crystal Peaks Shopping Mall & Retail Park planned a visitors day for a local community group on Wednesday the 8th May, International Receptionists' Day .
Crystal Peaks are delighted to have won a Gold in the Green Apple Environment Awards, the international campaign to find the greenest companies, councils and communities. We competed against more than 500 other nominations in the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice, and were presented with their trophy and certificate at a glittering presentation ceremony in the Houses of Parliament, London on November 6th.
Crystal Peaks have finally revealed their entry for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice's Soap Box Derby - Team Zoinks! Scrappy Doo will also be making an appearance. Carefully put together by our maintenance team, Mark Antcliff, Mark Fogg and Connor Stanley and painted by the ever so talented Chris at Creative Muruals and Portraits.
We at Crystal Peaks were recognised for our handling of waste management and zero landfill policy with a nomination for a major national award. We were nominated for Sceptre’s Waste Management Award, after we prevented 95 per cent of our waste from being incinerated. We worked with our staff, retailers, suppliers and clients to strengthen a culture of reduction and reuse within our site team and retail units.
Some of you may remember our resident elephant – The Beat Goes On by Tom J Newell last year for the Herd of Sheffield legacy. Sheffield Children's Hospital and Charity has informed us that they have finally been able to unveil a life-saving fluoroscopy suite, funded thanks to the success of the Herd of Sheffield sculpture trail!
All Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre staff are in the process of receiving Dementia training, South Yorkshire Dementia Action Alliances have secured £149K funding from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Safer Communities reserve. As a Centre we are taking advantage and have trained the trainer to deliver this very worthwhile cause on site to all our staff to learn techniques and tips on how to handle challenging behaviours.
We are delighted to have won the prestigious Britain in Bloom Gold Award for the fifth year running and there’s a double celebration this year as we were also awarded the discretionary Yorkshire Rose Commercial Award. The judges commented: “The team fully understand the benefits of the landscape and are working on ways to improve not only their site but work with the local community to give something back.”
Project iCare was founded in April 2014, after Rotherham store team leader, Mark Skelton, was registered blind. Mark is now the ambassador for Project iCare, with the main aim of the project being to help the visually impaired community improve their daily lives with the help of digital technology. Mobile and tablet devices are his speciality. Mark is very passionate about his role within Project iCare, due to him being visually impaired he knows the difference digital technology can make to visually impaired community.
